We like to enjoy the good things life have to offer, don’t we? I know I would like to earn all the goodies I can have as human, all the luxuries, all the comfort. I surely would like all the vacations, “baecations”, have that high paying job with less hours at work. Who wouldn’t like that?

I like how Ecclesiastes 3:1 puts it; “To everything there is a time and season, a time for every purpose under heaven.” It says to EVERYTHING you want, there is a time and season for it. there is a time to plant, and there is a time to pluck that which you have planted.

A TIME TO PLANT

Every day you wake is a time to plant. The question is what do you have to plant? and also what do you want to pluck? There is a time to identify what to do with the resources you have at your disposal. Whatever talent you have, build on it; whatever skill you have, put it to work so you may be better at it. Our talents, intellect, skills, and every resource made available to us, is a seed that we can plant and expect to pluck its fruits over time. In the season of planting (learning a skill or book, working in another person’s firm, daily confessions), let’s be mindful of harvest time. Focusing on what we want to achieve will determine how much work we will put in our planting season.

A Time To Pluck

The amount of fruits you will pluck is highly dependent on the efforts you placed in your Planting season. If you want to become a great footballer, do not spend your time learning how to play basketball, why? The best case scenario for you will be you becoming a “ball boy” since you have trained your hands to throw a ball well. You have to be intentional about the planting season (which we have learnt is everyday you wake up) and all you do from then to the time you are to reap what you sow. This brings us to our final point:

A Time to Nurture

the period of nurturing comes after you plant and this period is undoubtedly the time for real hard work. The abundance of your harvest is dependent on this period. the more the work you put in, the more likely you will succeed. Example, getting into the university alone does not assure you will in your chosen field of study. The work you put in in your years in school will determine if you will pass or you will fail.

If we don’t want a sour and rotten harvest, let us apply wisdom, use discretion, work hard, most importantly let us ask God for grace and guidance so we can get a bountiful harvest to the glory of God. Also remember to not stop planting even when you begin to pluck. Continue to plant even as you pluck so your season of plucking will be consistent.
