We know the story of Goliath very well and how he was defeated by David. In the next minute we will see how He was arguably one of the smartest men alive. Are you ready? Buckle your seat belt and let’s do this. Before that, the original Title was going to be “The Wisdom of Goliath” but…🤔
In the book of 1 Samuel 17, we are introduced to the character of Goliath and at an interesting time as well. The armies of the Living God was ready for battle against the army of the Philistines (and knowing our Lord of Hosts, this was going to be an easy victory for the Israelites). But guess what? It took over 40days for this victory to be realized. How come? Just one man, Goliath.
What did Goliath do? Can you guess? Goliath simply changed the Rules of Engagement and as such paralysed the entire army of Israel. Yes, he did. Knowing that his presence instilled fear in others, he used that to his advantage and changed the rules of engagement. He created his own rule by calling for a Single Combat, knowing very well the soldiers of Israel will be shaking in their boots. You’d agree with me Goliath was pretty smart in this respect right?
What lesson can we pick from this single act that terrified the armies of Israel and suspended their victory for 40days? There may be a few in there but the one that stands paramount is for you to move and play to your strength. When the battleground seems tough, change the rules of engagement. In Matthew 17:21, we see Jesus explaining to His disciples the rules of Engagement that needed to be observed to overcome that epileptic demon.
Beloved, knowing WHEN to apply WHAT will go a long way to help you succeed on each and every battleground.
