Testimonies are simply written or spoken statements that something is true. It can be an experience one had or an event one was a witness to.
However, when the Bible talks of testimony it simply means being a witness and sharing with others, your experiences with God. Testimonies are a powerful way to give praise to the Lord for the wonderful things he has done. Our personal relationship with God is built on the experiences we have with him.
Humans thrive off connection, and as such, is something that needs to survive and thrive in our lives. Trauma and adversity produce a high level of shame, hopelessness, helplessness, and create psychological and emotional barriers that prevent us from being able to connect with other people. Shame at its essence is the feeling of being different from others and not being good enough. The courage to share our testimony, our story, with others despite the fear of judgment or criticism helps others to build up resilience and keep moving on.
Not only does sharing our testimony help us heal, but our story can be the catalyst for healing in other’s lives. The Emotional identification that happens when you hear another person tell a similar story of suffering helps you know you’re not alone. It gives you hope that you too can heal and be brave enough to tell your story one day. It gives hope that your breakthrough will surely come. We no longer feel different and apart from others. We begin to see that we are whole and worthy of belonging.
The power of testimonies put you above your problems and destroys all lies and deceits of the devil concerning all that the Almighty God has promised you so brethren, let’s keep sharing our testimonies no matter how small we may think they are.
